Joseph Tiseo Ramp Park renovations completed

The renovations of Joseph Tiseo Ramp Park have been completed and the park is officially open to the public. The project was paid for through a Community Development Block Grant and the contract was awarded to American Ramp Company.

Essex County receives $26.4m to update intersections

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that Essex County will receive $26.4 million in federal grants from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority to make safety improvements at 39 intersections throughout Essex County. The projects include extending curbs and installing refuge islands, where feasible, to shorten crossing distances for pedestrians; and the installation of leading pedestrian interval signals, which stop traffic in all directions to allow people to cross more safely.

Essex County Thanksgiving emergency food Distribution events planned Nov. 19 and 24

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders will present two special Thanksgiving Emergency Food Distribution Events to help families negatively impacted by the Coronavirus. There will be 1,500 frozen turkeys and boxes of non-perishable food distributed at each event. The program is meant to benefit families who have been forced out of work and are not able to afford food.

Essex County coronavirus mortgage assistance program launches

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that Essex County is allocating $2 million for a grant program to help residential property owners from Essex County who have been negatively impacted by the Coronavirus and are behind on their mortgage payments. Applications for the Essex County Coronavirus Mortgage Assistance Program are now available. Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Cycle 8 Water Bills to be delivered this coming week

Cycle 8 water bills, which consist primarily of commercial factories and apartments, have been sent out and will be delivered this week. This bill will cover the previous five months, as no bills have been sent since May due to COVID-19. Therefore, the bill may appear higher than the standard monthly billing property owners are accustomed to receiving, since it’s covering a longer time frame.

Essex County cancels Holiday Lights Spectacular because of pandemic

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced on Friday, November 6th that the 2020 Essex County Holiday Lights Spectacular at Essex County Turtle Back Zoo has been cancelled because of the Coronavirus.

Bloomfield notified by the City of Newark of high turbidity (cloudy) water; Bloomfield water remains compliant

Bloomfield was notified by the city of Newark that on September 20, 25 and 26 there were periods of high turbidity (cloudy) water. The issue was corrected by the city on September 26.

Essex County launches small business lease emergency assistance grant

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that Essex County is allocating $9 million to create the Essex County Small Business Lease Emergency Assistance Grant. This grant funding is designed to help small businesses and non-profit agencies in Essex County that have been negatively impacted by the Coronavirus pay their rent. Essex County businesses and non-profit agencies would be able to apply for as much as a $30,000 grant. Essex County is partnering with the NJ Redevelopment Authority to administer the program. Applications will be available beginning Monday, November 16th at the Essex County Office of Small Business Development website at www.ecsmallbiz.org. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
