Newark Water Coalition is hiring two people to fill open part-time reporter and researcher positions for their Newark Community Voices Project. Applicants must be Newark residents, able to attend meetings, meet deadlines, and have 5-10 hours of work availability per week.

Newark’s Malcom X Shabazz High School marching band performed on Good Morning America on Oct. 20 as part of its HBCU homecoming weekend program.

La Casa De Don Pedro offers youth and family counseling through their Youth Empowerment Services Program for children age 13-17 in the Greater Newark area. The program includes individual counseling, group counseling, educational activities and parent workshops. Registration is required.

Irvington Public Schools plans “Praxis Exam Preparation Program” for people seeking teacher certification in N.J. Passing the exam is required teachers in the state. Class will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. from Nov. 7 to Jan. 30 at Irvington High School. Preregistration is required. Add to 📅.

Local residents can support Isaiah House, an East Orange-based nonprofit that supports unhoused families, by purchasing a reusable “community bag” from the South Orange Stop and Shop during the month of November. $1 will be donated to Isaiah House for every bag purchased.

N.J. landlords are required to heat buildings when the temperature drops below 55 degrees. The temperature inside rented buildings between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. during cold weather must be 68 degrees.
