Ironbound Community Corporation will hold a press conference and rally against the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission’s decision to approve a fourth fossil fuel plant in Newark on Aug. 12. It begins at 10:30 a.m. at 600 Wilson Ave. in Newark.
The $180 million backup power project is the first to be approved since N.J.ās 2023 environmental justice law that intends to block similar construction in communities burdened by polluting infrastructure. In May, Earthjustice, representing Ironbound Community Corporation, filed an appeal to challenge the PVSCās decision, claiming it violates the stateās environmental justice law.
