Essex County’s food distribution on Feb. 11 will be in Bloomfield

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., the Essex County Board of County Commissioners, Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia and the Bloomfield Township Council will present an Emergency Food Distribution Event on Thursday, February 11th in the Bloomfield Public Library parking lot to help families negatively impacted by the Coronavirus. The 1,000 boxes of food that will be distributed are meant to benefit families who have been forced out of work and are not able to afford food.

DiVincenzo, Jr. announced the Essex Ed, the resident groundhog at Turtle Back Zoo, made his annual weather predication on Tuesday, February 2nd, which is nationally recognized as "Groundhog Day." During the 11 a.m. Zoom prognostication, Essex Ed did not see his shadow which means spring weather is expected to come six weeks early. In addition, Essex Ed picked the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win Super Bowl LV.

Bloomfield Public Library partners with Community Food Bank of NJ for SNAP 101 presentation on February 10

The Bloomfield Public Library is partnering with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey to give residents a presentation about SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The presentation will take place over Zoom on February 10 at 4:00pm.

Essex County Turtle Back Zoo Charity Drive collects 8 tons of food

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that more than eight tons of non-perishable food, 172 gently used winter coats and 130 toys were collected at Essex County Turtle Back Zoo during the month of December. The charity drive benefitted less fortunate families and those impacted by the pandemic. In exchange for bringing a donation, visitors were given free admission to the zoo between December 8th and 31st.

DiVincenzo, Jr. and the Essex County Division of Senior Services invite Essex seniors ages 60 and older to submit an original story focusing on a special person, life-changing experience or significant period of their life to the 2021 Essex County Legacies Writing Contest. The deadline is Monday, April 5, 2021.
