Latisha Porter-Vaughn, a Newark resident, was recently named a finalist for the annual Oticon Focus on People Awards, a national program acknowledging individuals advocating for those with hearing loss. Porter-Vaughn, who had her own experiences with progressive hearing loss, became the first African-American president of the Hearing Loss Association of America-N.J. Chapter and works as a researcher for the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes.
