New Jersey teachers and parents can apply to JerseyCAN’s education policy fellowships, scheduled to start Oct. 22. Fellows will develop advocacy skills and meet an advocacy goal by the end of the program. A $3,000 stipend is awarded to participants. Applications are available online.

New Jersey nursing homes were inspected every 20 months between Jul. 1, 2022 and Mar. 31, 2026 while state regulations mandate yearly inspections, according to a state report. The report comes from the N.J. Department of Health, which oversees the state’s 350 nursing homes. It found that more than 25% of facilities were not inspected in at least two years, and more than 80% of inspections from nursing home complaints were delayed because of staffing shortages. Governor Dale Caldwell is under investigation over allegations of ethics violations, including offering state jobs, and inappropriate behavior towards women, according to New Jersey Globe, the New York Times, and NJ.com. Details of Caldwell’s misconduct are not yet available. Former N.J. Attorney General Christopher Porrino and Shontae Gray, a former assistant U.S. attorney, have been conducting the investigation and interviewing complainants, including state employees and potential witnesses.
