Nearly 40 women detained inside Delaney Hall, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement concentration camp in Newark, joined an ongoing labor and hunger strike at the facility. The women are demanding ICE to release women under the age of 21, women with medical conditions, and mothers, as well as improved facility conditions. About 300 detainees at Delaney Hall in Newark have been on a hunger and labor strike since May 22 to protest dangerous conditions inside the facility, including medical neglect, lack of air conditioning, and lack of food. Detainees called for an investigation of Delaney Hall, its operations, and for Gov. Mikie Sherrill to visit to discuss protections for immigrants.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill seeks community feedback as the state renames the Essex-Hudson Greenway, a nearly nine-mile former rail line that connects Essex and Hudson Counties. Ryan Haygood, president and CEO of N.J. Institute for Social Justice, was recently named the president and CEO of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Haygood’s last day at NJISJ is Jul. 31. Henal Patel, law and policy director of NJISJ, will serve as the organization’s interim president and CEO. Laura Sullivan, director of NJISJ’s economic justice program, will act as interim law and policy director.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed an executive order to reduce junk fees in N.J. Junk fees are hidden charges that increase the cost of goods and services. The executive order directs all state agencies to identify and analyze the impact of junk fees on consumers and provide legislative recommendations to reduce or eliminate them.
