Gov. Mikie Sherrill recently announced a plan to regulate data centers amid concerns around energy bills, water supply, and quality of life. The proposed legislation requires data centers to contract with power generators and pay for grid updates, report energy and water usage every six months, and hire local trade workers. It will also implement a standard for agreements between municipalities and data centers to address noise and pollution. There are more than 80 data centers operating or under construction in N.J.

New Jersey college students can apply to intern with Sen. Andy Kim’s office by Jun. 26. The internship is from September to December out of Barrington or Jersey City offices. Rep. Analilia Mejia and Joe Hathaway won the primary election for N.J.’s 11th congressional district, according to the Associated Press. Mejia won the Democratic primary with 47,849 votes and Hathaway ran in the Republican primary unopposed. Both names will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot for the general election. The winner will represent parts of Morris, Essex, and Passaic counties.

Sen. Cory Booker and Justin Murphy won the primary election for N.J.’s U.S. Senator seat, according to the Associated Press. Booker ran in the Democratic primary unopposed and Murphy won the Republican primary with 80,004 votes. Both names will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot for the general election. The winner will represent N.J. at the federal level.

Rep. LaMonica McIver and Carmen Bucco won the primary election for N.J.’s 10th congressional district, according to the Associated Press. McIver won the Democratic primary with 35,847 votes and Bucco ran in the Republican primary unopposed. Both names will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot for the general election. The winner will represent parts of Essex, Union, and Hudson counties.

Montclair State University will operate NJ PBS starting Jul. 1. The college was selected from a pool of four bidders after WNET announced it will no longer manage the broadcasting network. The agreement is for five years with two five-year extensions, and requires the college to program four NJ PBS stations as well as live election coverage. The state legislature has 15 days to review a control between NJ PBS Authority and Montclair State University.
