Six candidates filed to run for Newark’s Central Ward council seat

Six candidates filed to run in Newark’s special election to fill the Central Ward council seat left vacant by Rep. LaMonica McIver. Candidates are Amina Bey, Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins, Jhamar Youngblood, Tammy Holloway, Walter Jacobs, and George M. Tillman, Jr. The Central Ward seat has been vacant since September 2024, when McIver won the special election to fill Rep. Donald Payne Jr.’s congressional position in N.J.’s 10th district. The special election is scheduled for November.
