West Orange school district’s Central Six to end June 2025

West Orange’s middle schools will now serve students in grades 6-8 following a recent school board vote to end the district’s Central Six program at Edison Middle School. The decision was made in an attempt to address the district’s $9 million budget deficit, officials said. The change is expected to save the district $500,000 annually, and there are plans to cut nearly 60 staff positions and increase the average class size to 25 students, according to a statement from the district. Students entering grade 6 in the fall should have received notice of their assigned middle school on May 30.
