From Montclair Local.

Montclair filmmaker Sam Friedman wrote his first feature film, “Grassland,” a social justice thriller based on his personal experiences. It takes place in Montclair in 2008 and explores the social impacts of incarceration for growing and selling marijuana. Additional filming locations include one of the Montclair middle schools, Holsten’s in Bloomfield, and a local Italian restaurant. Film producers hired formerly incarcerated actors to perform in the movie. “Grassland” is available to rent or buy on Apple TV.
