NAACP-Newark will discuss N.J. Reparations Council’s 2025 report with N.J. Institute for Social Justice on Facebook Live on Aug. 14. It begins at 6:30 p.m. The report, “For Such a Time as This: The Nowness of Reparations for Black People in New Jersey,” recommends nearly 100 policies to address N.J.’s legacy of segregation and racism. The proposed recommendations include ways to financially compensate Black people in N.J. and repair harm through investments in health, education, safety, environment systems, Black faith institutions, and more. The 58-member council was formed in 2023 by the N.J. Institute for Social Justice. Its report, based on research and public input, is designed for the N.J. Legislature’s consideration.
