Bloomfield Mayor Mundell to address safety concerns Dec. 13 after firefighter sues town over racism
From Bloomfield Mayor Jenny Mundell.
Bloomfield Mayor Jenny Mundell will address safety concerns and questions on Dec. 13 during a community listening session hosted by local clergy. The event comes after Bloomfield firefighter Patrick Thomas filed a $25 million lawsuit against the township, fire department, and Bloomfield Fire Chief Lou Venezia for creating a racist environment, according to the complaint. In December 2023, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office charged Bloomfield firefighter Walter Coffey with harassment with a purpose to intimidate after giving Thomas, a Black co-worker, a rope noose. The event begins at 3 p.m. at New Light Baptist Church. Mundell also said she asked the town administration to establish a process for town employees to anonymously report complaints and safety concerns as a result of the lawsuit.
