Ironbound Community Corporation is urging the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission board to withdraw its permit application to construct a fourth fossil fuel plant in Newark during the board’s Jan. 16 meeting. The PVSC board will meet virtually on at 12 p.m. Members of the public can join and comment on the PVSC’s plans during the meeting.

Zuri McCune, a senior at Science Park High School, was named Newark board of education’s student representative for the 2024-25 school year. Student representatives serve one-year terms and act as a liaison between the students and the board.

Youth in grades 3-8 can attend a free, hands-on computer science learning session on Jan. 18 in Newark. It is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Rutgers-Newark. Students will explore robotics and coding. Snacks and prizes available. Registration is required.
