Belleville planning board approves project to replace a gas station with an apartment building

From Belleville-Nutley Patch.

Belleville’s planning board approved a site proposal to build a five-story apartment and retail building at 605-609 Washington Ave., which will replace an existing gas station. The board voted for the project despite resident concerns over parking availability and space at the proposed development by Belleville Operating Inc.
The site is actively contaminated, according to the N.J. environmental protection department, and the gas station will be closed for remediation by the end of 2025. Construction is expected to start immediately after.
