“Read to a Dog” for children planned by Maplewood library on Jul. 27 in the Hilton Branch. Participants will take turns reading from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants should either bring their own reading material or arrive early to select something from the library’s collection before the event.

Free concert with Motor City Review planned by Essex County Parks on Jul. 26 in Newark. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Brookdale Park. Attendees should bring a blanket or lawn chairs.

Drop-in workshop with artist Naomi Kuo planned at Newark Museum of Art on Jul. 27. Attendees will share their reflections on Asian art and reimagine the museum’s Arts of Global Asia galleries from 2-4 p.m. Participants will use upcycled materials to create a mixed-media scroll focused on Asian cultural history, global politics, anti-Asian violence, and climate change.
