“Storm Chasing” weather presentation with Karen Rome planned at Maplewood library on Jul. 23 in the Hilton Branch. Rome will discuss severe weather, tornadoes, and storm chasing at 6:30 p.m. Registration is not required.

Chess group meeting for youth planned by Maplewood library on Jul. 23 in the Hilton Branch. The group is designed for students in grades 6-12 and all skill levels. It will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Registration is recommended.

Maplewood Village Alliance is restoring all teak benches in town with Flowerboxjoe, a local woodworker. The benches will be removed a few at a time, cleaned, sealed, and repaired before being reinstalled.

Maplewood and South Orange residents ages 21+ can register for Maplewood recreation’s 2024 Laura Holtz Tennis Tournament to Fight Epilepsy. The tournament is scheduled for Sep. 7-8 at Memorial Park and Walter Park Tennis Courts. Registration is $50 per team and available online.

Sen. Bob Menendez was found guilty of accepting bribes and using his political influence to benefit three N.J. businessmen and the governments of Egypt and Qatar. Gov. Phil Murphy is calling on Menendez to resign, and if he refuses, that the Senate should remove him. Despite being found guilty, Menendez filed to run as an independent in June for his U.S. Senate seat. The deadline to withdraw from the ballot is Aug. 16. His sentencing is scheduled for October.
