Twelve candidates to run for N.J. 10th congressional district in July primary election

New Jersey voters will elect their next 10th congressional district representative during a special Jul. 16 primary. Twelve candidates filed to fill the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr.’s former seat, including LaMonica McIver, Derek Armstead, Jerry Walker, Brittany Claybrooks, Darryl Godfrey, Shana Melius, Sheila Montague, Debra Salters, Alberta Gordon, John Flora, Eugene Mazo, and Carmen Bucco. The 10th congressional district serves East Orange, Irvington, Montclair, Newark, Orange, and West Orange, among other municipalities in Hudson and Union Counties. A special general election is scheduled for September. The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Payne’s term which ends in January 2025.
