Rutgers-Newark students, faculty, and community members set up encampment this week in solidarity with Palestine. Newark Solidarity Coalition members are outside of Rutgers Law School, following Rutgers-New Brunswick’s encampment earlier this week. Demands include a divestment from Israel, a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, reinvestments in Newark’s communities, among several others. The protest is part of a global student movement demanding institutions end investments and endowments that fund or profit from Israel’s human rights violations.

Regional news
New Jersey voters can select “uncommitted” on the Jun. 4 primary election ballot, where the slogan reads “Justice for Palestine, permanent cease-fire now.” Voting uncommitted is part of a nationwide movement that protests the Biden administration’s funding and support for the genocide in Palestine. The initiative in N.J. is led by local chapters of the Democratic Socialists of America, which collected over 3,500 signatures from registered Democrats to get their delegates on the ballot. An uncommitted vote indicates the voter is selecting a delegate who isn’t bound to any single candidate. If a sufficient number of uncommitted votes are cast, the party can send their delegates to the national convention, where its presidential candidate is nominated.
