Regional news
Federal District Judge Zahid Quraishi has ruled that the county organizational line, a system for grouping party-endorsed candidates on primary ballots, will not be used in the state’s Democrat primary elections this year. The lawsuit against this system was brought forward by Senate candidate Rep. Andy Kim, and congressional candidates Sarah Schoengood and Carolyn Rush, who argued it posed significant harm to their campaigns. County clerks named in the defense are expected to appeal the decision, potentially halting its impact during the lengthy appeals process. In June, N.J. voters will see a randomized block ballot for Democrat candidates. Republican primary ballots, however, will maintain the party-backed design.
