Newark city officials will send notices to water utility customers warning of a problem in their lead service line replacement program, where some lines were only partially replaced instead of fully, as required by New Jersey law. This discovery prompted an investigation into the extent of the issue. Despite this, officials reassure that the water remains safe to drink due to ongoing corrosion control measures. The city and state are auditing replacements citywide, promising transparency in their findings, although they haven’t disclosed the third party responsible for the incomplete work. The issue was brought to public attention after being inadvertently mentioned during a council meeting streamed on YouTube.
