More than 1,700 nurses are continuing their 115-day long strike against Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. The nurses, represented by Steelworkers Local 4-200, are seeking a contract that will establish strict patient-to-nurse ratios to address chronic understaffing they’ve testified worsens patient care. Hospital officials say such ratios would limit management’s flexibility during peak patient volume. The hospital is part of RWJBarnabas Health, which includes medical centers in Belleville and Newark.

New Jersey’s health department has suspended admissions at Limecrest Subacute and Rehabilitation Center in Sussex County due to a COVID-19 outbreak. 66 residents and staff have been infected, and seven residents have died since September. The facility must hire consultant to manage the center and its nursing and infection control departments before admissions can resume.
