Volunteer information session planned virtually with CASA Essex County, a social service organization for local youth, on Jun. 30. It begins at 10 a.m. and will discuss ways to volunteer. Register by emailing info@casaessex.org.

Adults and youth can participate in Essex County parks’ photography contest until Sep. 9. Submissions must include photos of different local parks. Photos will be displayed at the Essex County Environmental Center throughout October.

Our Green West Orange Community seeks monetary donations to support legal aid against the proposed housing development in St. Cloud. The development is a 95-unit 4-story apartment house. Community members are concerned about increased noise and light pollution, environmental intrusion to Green Ridge, driveway access, and more. Donations are accepted online.

Newark City Council approved a 25-year tax abatement for 1080 Bergen Developer Urban Renewal LLC, which plans to construct a five-story building at the former City National Bank building in Weequahic. The approval comes after Newark residents raised concerns about affordability.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill seeks community feedback as the state renames the Essex-Hudson Greenway, a nearly nine-mile former rail line that connects Essex and Hudson Counties.
