“Pride Under the Stars” planned with South Orange Downtown on Jun. 12. It is from 7-11 p.m. at Spiotta Park. There will be music, a cash bar, and more. Free admission. Suggested donation of $20 will benefit North Jersey Pride.

Film screening of “Pink Flamingos” planned at Montclair Film’s Bellevue Theater on Jun. 12. It begins at 10 p.m. at 260 Bellevue Ave. There will be a pre-show drag performance with Miss Indie Lusion. Tickets are available online for purchase.

Free 10-week citizenship exam preparation course planned with Newark library starting Jun. 13 at the Main Branch. It meets weekly through Aug. 22. Registration is available online. Library card not required.

Newark’s Portugal Day Festival is from Jun. 12-14. It is located at Peter Francisco Park. There will also be a 5K race on Jun. 14. Registration is required.

Night tour of Turtle Back Zoo for families planned on Jun. 12 in West Orange. Times available for 8 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. It will feature nocturnal animals. Registration is $10. Children younger than 2 enter for free.

REGIONAL NEWS


Montclair State University will operate NJ PBS starting Jul. 1. The college was selected from a pool of four bidders after WNET announced it will no longer manage the broadcasting network. The agreement is for five years with two five-year extensions, and requires the college to program four NJ PBS stations as well as live election coverage. The state legislature has 15 days to review a control between NJ PBS Authority and Montclair State University.
