Essex County Clerk’s office released unofficial 2026 election results for Newark’s city council. Ras Baraka won the mayor’s seat with 13,057 votes. Luis A. Quintana, C. Lawrence Crump, Louise Scott-Rountree, and Donna Jackson won the council-at large seats with 8,378, 7,630, 7,188, and 6,735 votes. Anibal Ramos Jr. won the North Ward seat with 2,965 votes. Patrick O. Council won the South Ward seat with 2,165 votes. Michael J. Silva won the East Ward seat with 1,555 votes. Dupre L. Kelly won the West Ward seat with 2,365 votes. Amina Bey won the Central Ward seat with 2,338 votes.

Registration is open for Newark recreation’s 2026 summer basketball camp. The program is for ages 7-14 who are interested in improving their basketball skills. It meets weekdays from Jul. 6 to Aug. 21 at Weequahic High School. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Registration is available by calling 973-733-6454.

Helping Others Move Equitably (HOME) fundraiser supporting The Warehouse NJ is scheduled on Jun. 5 in Short Hills. It will tour five homes in Short Hills from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and discuss its history and features. Raised funds will support The Warehouse’s work around furnishing houses for homeless people. Tickets are available online.

“Knight Run for Research” fundraiser benefitting Rutgers Cancer Institute is on Jun. 14 in New Brunswick. People can participate in a 5K or 2K. Registration available online.

Adult mental health first aid training planned with Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern NJ on May 20 in Secaucus. Attendees will learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use in adults ages 18+. It is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 150 Meadowlands Parkway. Admission is $100. Registration required.
