The Station, a cannabis dispensary, recently opened in Newark at 201 Wright St. It is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays until 9 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Jaquan T. McGiver, a Newark housing inspector, was charged with second-degree theft by extortion, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. McGiver allegedly attempted to obtain $1,500 from a Newark homeowner on Sep. 23, 2025 in exchange for dismissing fines related to property violations. Residents are encouraged to report any related information to the prosecutor’s office’s tip line at 877-847-7432.

New Jersey Empowerment Awards is scheduled for Mar. 25 at the Newark Museum of Art. Hosted by the N.J. Black Empowerment Coalition. It begins at 6 p.m. and will honor Adenah Bayoh, Charles Boyer, Antoinette Miles, Marcia Hicks, Benjie Wimberly, and Sharonda Allen.
