Newark to publish annual list of non-compliant landlords

From Patch Newark.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka signed an executive order to publish an annual list of non-compliant landlords. The order follows a trend of tenants reporting code violations to the city. The order defines non-compliance as three violations within 12 months for a single address or five violations within 12 months for multiple addresses. Landlords who are non-compliant with city law may have incentives, such as tax abatements, revoked. A landlord placed on the list will be re-evaluated after one full year has passed. Tenants can report poor living conditions to Newark’s division of code enforcement by calling 973-733-3813.
