Montclair special election cancelled after judge rules ballot questions unlawful, school board meets Dec. 4

From Montclair Township.

Montclair was ordered to cancel its referendum vote scheduled for Dec. 9 by Superior Court Judge Robert H. Gardner who ruled the two ballot questions invalid and unlawful. The questions asked voters if they approve raising taxes to address the school district’s $19.6 million budget gap. The ruling granted a Montclair resident’s application to prevent the school board from holding the election because of how the questions were written. The school board is holding a special emergency meeting on Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the George Inness Annex Atrium. It will discuss the district budget, attorney-client privileged information, and litigation updates, according to the township.
