Flight delays, cancellations expected to continue after move to end government shutdown, FAA says

From NorthJersey.com.

Flight delays and cancellations are expected to continue despite a preliminary agreement to end the federal government shutdown, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA began restricting flights at major airports, including Newark, JFK, LaGuardia and Teterboro airports, on Nov. 7 because the government shutdown led to staffing shortages. Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 29, 11 flights were cancelled nationwide due to staffing issues, and between Oct. 30 and Nov. 9, the number of cancelled flights increased to 4,162. According to Flightware.com, there were 436 delays and 317 flight cancellations at Newark airport on Nov. 9.
