Essex County Clerk’s office released unofficial 2025 general election results for Maplewood’s council race. Jane Collins-Colding won the township committee seat with 9,628 votes.

Essex County Clerk’s office released unofficial 2025 general election results for South Orange-Maplewood’s school board race. Malini Nayar, Meredith Higgins, and Paul Stephan won with 8,355, 8,035, and 7,720 votes.

Books Now and Then reading group meeting planned at Maplewood library on Nov. 13 in the Main Branch. Members will discuss “The Mighty” by Red Louise Erdrich at 6:30 p.m. Registration not required.

Cleopatra Tucker and Chigozie Onyema won the N.J. state Assembly seat in the 28th legislative district, according to unofficial 2025 general election results from the Essex County Clerk’s office. Tucker received 39,214 votes and Onyema received 38,618 votes. Tucker has represented the 28th legislative district since January 2008. Onyema will be filling the second Assembly seat left by Garnet Hall, who was elected to office in 2024 and did not seek re-election. The district includes Maplewood, Irvington, South Orange, and parts of Newark.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill was elected governor of N.J. with nearly 1.8 million votes, according to The Associated Press. Sherrill has served the state’s 11th congressional district, which includes parts of Essex, Morris, and Passaic counties. She will be the state’s second woman governor. Her four-year term as governor begins in January 2026.
