Essex County Clerk’s office released unofficial 2025 general election results for East Orange’s mayoral and council races. Ted Green won the mayoral seat with 14,258 votes. Christopher James won the First Ward council seat with 3,405 votes. Christopher Awe won the Second Ward council seat with 2,199 votes. Bergson Leneus won the Third Ward council seat with 2,972 votes. Tameika Garrett-Ward won the Fourth Ward council seat with 2,451 votes. Alcial Holman won the Fifth Ward council seat with 2,944 votes.

Book club meeting for adults planned at East Orange library on Nov. 13. Attendees will discuss “Possessing the Secret of Joy” by Alice Walker at 5 p.m. Register by email.

Michael Venezia and Carmen Morales won the N.J. state Assembly seat in the 34th legislative district, according to unofficial 2025 general election results from the Essex County Clerk’s office. Venezia received 44,711 votes and Morales received 45,895 votes. They both have represented the 34th legislative district since January 2024. The district includes Belleville, Bloomfield, East Orange, Glen Ridge, Nutley, and Orange.

Rep. Mikie Sherrill was elected governor of N.J. with nearly 1.8 million votes, according to The Associated Press. Sherrill has served the state’s 11th congressional district, which includes parts of Essex, Morris, and Passaic counties. She will be the state’s second woman governor. Her four-year term as governor begins in January 2026.
