Residents in Maplewood and Montclair will lead a conversation on Oct. 29 about local ordinances that ban the use of gas leaf blowers in their towns. They will discuss the ordinance, what prompted it, and how other towns can follow. It begins at 7 p.m. in Maplewood. Location available upon RSVP. Free admission.

Essex County public works is resurfacing Valley Street in Maplewood through Oct. 31. Repaving is from Millburn Avenue to Parker Street from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Residents should plan alternate travel routes during that time.

Maplewood and South Orange adults ages 30+ can register for open basketball, scheduled to start Nov. 2. It meets Sundays from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Maplewood Middle School. It runs through Jan. 25. Enrollment is $180. Registration is required.
