New Jersey’s 2025 General Election is on Nov. 4. Voters will elect the state’s next governor, representatives in the N.J. state assembly, and seats for local offices across Essex County.

Read below to learn about how to send in your mail-in ballots, early voting, and voting on Election Day.


How to send in mail-in ballots

If you’re voting by mail, you have a few secure options to return your ballot in Essex County:

  • Completed ballots can be returned by mail and must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day and received within six days.

  • Drop the ballot off at any secure ballot drop box before 8 p.m. on Election Day.
  • Bring the ballot to the Essex County Clerk’s Office, 495 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., in Newark between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

How to vote early in Essex County

In-person early voting for the 2025 general election is from Oct. 25 to Nov. 2. Registered voters in Essex County can access their district’s ballot at any of the county’s 11 early voting locations.

Early voting centers are located in:

  • Bloomfield.
  • East Orange.
  • Fairfield.
  • Irvington.
  • Verona.
  • West Orange.
  • Newark.
