Interfaith Food Pantry of the Oranges seeks new and gently used coat donations through Oct. 31. Drop-off sites are located in West Orange, South Orange, Maplewood, Short Hills, and Livingston. Locations are listed online.

Fall clean-up planned with East Orange on Nov. 1. Participants meet at City Hall at 9 a.m. for registration. Clean-up is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Supplies provided.

East Orange will be flushing fire hydrants through Nov. 4. Hydrant flushing is from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will affect each ward on different dates. A complete list is available online. Residents in affected areas may experience low water pressure or discolored water. Residents should also avoid using their washing machines during this time.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients may not receive benefits for the month of November on time if the federal government shutdown continues, according to the N.J. department of human services. The federal government shut down on Oct. 1 because lawmakers failed to pass a funding bill. The DHS said Work First New Jersey benefits should be available on time, and it does not anticipate interruptions to the Child Care Assistance Program and child support collection payments. The DHS will update its website as information changes.
