South Orange advanced its fourth round of affordable and fair share housing plans to the state, according to South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum. South Orange must build or rehabilitate 183 affordable housing units by 2035 to meet new housing requirements determined by N.J. Department of Community Affairs under a state law that passed in March 2024. Calculations include numbers for existing units in need of repair, 20, and the number of new units needed based on population trends, 163. The plan is available online for viewing.
