N.J. treasury issues scam alert, says it does not initiate contact by text or email

From New Jersey Division of Taxation.

New Jersey’s treasury department issued a scam alert about fraudulent text messages and emails residents may receive from people posing as tax representatives. The messages are recipients to provide banking information and complete payments in order to receive their property tax benefits. The state treasury department said it does not initiate text messages with taxpayers. People who receive fraudulent text messages or emails should report it online.
