NJPBU issues scam alert, says it does not call about universal bill credit program enrollment

From New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.

New Jersey Board of Public Utilities issued a scam alert about fraudulent calls residents may receive from people posing as utility representatives. The calls are asking residents to sign up for the $100 bill credit program by sharing their financial information. The NJBPU said it does not call customers to enroll them in the credit program. The $100 credit is automatically applied to each N.J. ratepayer’s electronic accounts and there is no action needed to receive it. People who receive fraudulent calls or have questions about the scam alert should contact the NJBPU Customer Assistance Division by phone.
