REGIONAL NEWS

New Jersey officials broke ground on the Essex-Hudson Greenway, a nine-mile-long park that will convert an unused rail line into a recreational space. The first phase began construction last week in Newark and is expected to open by the end of 2026, according to state officials. A timeline for the project is not yet announced. When completed, it will connect Jersey City, Secaucus, Kearny, Newark, Belleville, Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, and Montclair. It will also have parallel biking and ADA-compliant walking paths, community gathering spaces, native plantings, and reconstructed bridges.
