Plastic lawn signs can be recycled at Maplewood library’s Hilton Branch through Jul. 3. It is part of SOMA Cycle’s community recycling initiative.

Concert performance from Local Heroes planned with South Orange on Jul. 9 at Meadowland Park. It begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be local food trucks on site. It is part of “South Orange Summer Nights.” Free admission.

New Jersey Reparations Council recommended nearly 100 policies to the address N.J.’s legacy of segregation and racism in a recent report, “For Such a Time as This: The Nowness of Reparations for Black People in New Jersey.” The proposed recommendations include ways to financially compensate Black people in N.J. and repair harm through investments in health, education, safety, environment systems, Black faith institutions, and more. The 58-member council was formed in 2023 by the N.J. Institute for Social Justice. Its report, based on research and public input, is designed for the N.J. Legislature’s consideration. It is available to read online.
