LaMonica McIver pleads not guilty to federal charges

From NJ Spotlight News.

Rep. LaMonica McIver pleaded not guilty to federal charges accusing her of assaulting and interfering with immigration officers outside of Newark’s Delaney Hall in May. That day, McIver, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, and Reps. Rob Menendez and Bonnie Watson Coleman were trying to gain access to Delaney Hall to conduct an oversight inspection. A federal grand jury indicted, or formally accused, McIver earlier this month for assaulting, resisting, impeding, and interfering with federal officers, according to court documents. McIver’s next status conference is Aug. 8 and all motions must be filed by Aug. 15. The pre-trial conference is scheduled for Sep. 23 and the trial date is Nov. 10. McIver will continue to fulfill her congressional responsibilities as the case proceeds.
