REGIONAL NEWS
New Jersey is still under a statewide drought warning despite heavy rainfall in April and May, officials of the state Department of Environmental Protection said. Most regions are no longer experiencing dry conditions, but streamflow and groundwater are still below long-term averages. NJDEP officials recommend N.J. residents continue to conserve water by adding compost to soil, using mulch to reduce evaporation, and use drip irrigation instead of sprinklers among other steps. A complete list of recommendations is available online.
