Delaney Hall despite pending lawsuit by Newark

From New Jersey Monitor.

Delaney Hall, an immigrant detention center in Newark, started holding detainees despite a pending lawsuit by Newark officials, which said the facility’s operating company, Geo Group, has not obtained necessary permits or passed building inspections. Geo Group initially turned away city officials, but scheduled inspections after the lawsuit was filed in April. On May 1, the day the facility opened, an attorney for Newark told a judge that the site has more than 20 safety issues related to plumbing, fire codes, and electricity. It is unclear how many people are currently jailed inside the prison. A judge has not ruled on the case yet.
