N.J. utility companies must inform customers of energy use and costs, new law says

From New Jersey Monitor.

New Jersey utility companies must inform customers of their energy use and costs before bills are issued, according to a new law. It is meant to help N.J. residents avoid high utility costs as rates are expected to increase by $25 starting in June. Notices must be issued on the 10th and 20th days of a billing cycle by text message or email. Customers must be given an option to sign up for a separate notice of when their daily electric or gas use exceeds averages from past months. Utility companies must also break out costs by tariffs, fees, and taxes. The law is set to take effect in July.
