NJCU, Kean to complete potential merge by 2027
From NJ Advance Media.
New Jersey City University is expected to complete its merge with Kean University by 2027, campus officials said. Kean recently submitted a letter of intent to NJCU, according to Kean President Lamont O. Repollet. The two institutions will hold town halls once the letter of intent is signed by both parties. The merge would allow NJCU to continue operations as the university faces a $300 million deficit following its 2022 declaration of financial emergency. Campus officials said transition teams will spend up to two years addressing academic alignment, student services, finances, and other details between the two universities. Employee union leaders at Kean and NJCU will meet on Apr. 15. It is currently unclear whether a merger will result in staffing cuts.
