Flooding and heat most prevalent in Montclair’s Third and Fourth Wards, according to state and local data

From TAPinto Montclair.

Nicholas Dickerson, a project manager at Colliers Engineering, recently identified flooding and heat as Montclair’s biggest threats to climate resiliency. Dickerson presented his findings to Montclair’s planning board, based on data from the township, the state Department of Environmental Protection, the federal Department of Homeland Security, and community survey responses. He found that almost 20% of Montclair’s land is prone to flooding and the hottest areas are on and around Bloomfield Avenue, with Third and Fourth Ward residents being the most vulnerable to worsening climate conditions. Dickerson recommended the township updates its master plan and redevelopment plan to reflect the needs of Montclair’s most vulnerable communities, and consider proposals from the NJDEP. Montclair recently received a state grant for assistance from the NJDEP in developing a climate resiliency plan.
