United Community Corporation, a nonprofit with an emergency shelter in Newark, received $150,000 from Prudential Financial to expand its shelter services. Funding comes after homelessness increased 54% between 2023 and 2024 in Essex County, a Monarch Housing Associates report shows. UCC’s shelter is currently located at 31 Fulton St. It also manages Hope Villages I and II, which are transitional housing facilities made from shipping containers.
