South Orange-Maplewood board of education settled two of eight lawsuits that were filed by students who alleged sexual abuse by former Columbia High School language arts teacher Nicole DuFault. The two settled lawsuits claimed that school officials knew about the abuse, but failed to protect the students, according to a report from John Paff of Transparency NJ. Both settlements total $550,000 and were paid by the school district’s insurance, the report said.
