Traditional lion dance performance for the Lunar New Year planned at Maplewood library’s Hilton Branch on Jan. 25. The free event begins at 11:30 a.m. There will be Lunar New Year crafts and a scavenger hunt for children. Registration is not required.

Maplewood-area adults can attend the Maplewood Manifestation Meditation Series starting Jan. 25. There will be guided mediations through sound baths each week until Feb. 22. Admission is $103. Open to non-residents.

Maplewood residents in grades K-5 can attend the recreation department’s 2025 summer camp program, scheduled to start in June. Attendees create crafts, play on sports teams, and develop social skills together. Admission is $260 for four days. Limited to Maplewood residents.

NJ 11th for Change, a grassroots coalition for N.J.’s 11th congressional district, seeks donations supporting Human Needs Food Pantry and Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair on Jan. 20. Donations are collected from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Accepted items are boxes of cereal, pasta, winter gloves, men’s socks, men’s and children’s underwear, diaper wipes, and large sizes of diapers. Location for drop-off available upon request.

Lunar New Year celebration planned by AAPI-Montclair on Jan. 25 in Montclair. It is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Montclair Art Museum. There will be a dragon parade, lion dancers, food trucks, and arts and crafts. Admission prices vary. Children younger than 5 enter for free. Tickets available online.

More than 100 immigrants’ rights organizations sent a letter to Gov. Phil Murphy calling for the immediate passage of the Immigrant Trust Act, a bill that would allow N.J.’s 2.25 million immigrant population to seek public services without fear of deportation, regardless of immigration status. The letter came one day before Murphy’s penultimate state address on Jan. 14, where he outlined goals for N.J. in his upcoming, final year in office. Priorities include expanded abortion access, a proposed cell phone ban in classrooms, and changes to zoning laws. N.J. Alliance for Immigrant Justice, a coalition of advocacy groups, raised concerns about a lack of immigrant focus in Murphy’s speech as Congress is set to pass a federal detention and deportation bill, the Laken Riley Act, just days before the new administration takes office on Jan. 20.
