Essex County joins three other N.J. counties abandoning “party line” ballot design in primary elections

From Montclair Patch.

Essex County dropped its legal fight to maintain a “party line” ballot system in primary elections, a ballot design that was deemed unconstitutional by a federal judge in May. The “party line” system gives party-endorsed candidates primary placement on the ballot. Essex County’s primary election ballots will now group candidates by the offices they run for and there will be separate drawings determining the order of candidate names.
