Community social planned at Newark Local Beer by The Jersey Bee on Oct. 24. The event is from 5-7 p.m. and will give attendees the opportunity to meet The Jersey Bee staff, share ideas about their community, and connect with their neighbors. Garage sale planned by Hilton Neighborhood Association on Oct. 19 in Maplewood. More than 70 households are participating. The sale is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hilton and Lightning Brook neighborhoods. A rain date is scheduled for Oct. 20.

Story time for ages 1-3 planned by Maplewood library on Oct. 21 at the Hilton Branch. The event is from 10:30-10:50 a.m. and includes stories, rhymes, and movement activities. An accompanying adult must be present.

“Step Out for South Orange Middle School” fundraiser planned on Oct. 22. The Home and School Association’s goal is $15,000. Funds help pay for teacher grants, musical grants, the library fund, socials, and diversity and inclusion events. There will be music and small prizes. Registration is required.

Newark library seeks vendors for its holiday market planned for Dec. 14. The market is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main branch. Vendors must set up by 10 a.m. and break down their tables by 5 p.m. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 1.

Technical glitches from a revamped FAFSA form is delaying application availability from Oct. 1 to early December. “Better FAFSA” was released in 2023 to expedite the filing process, but delays have made it difficult for students to receive timely financial aid offers. N.J. students can receive deadline and application updates online.

Individuals can attend a free event lobbying for legislation regulating artificial turf on Oct. 21 in Trenton. Mandatory training begins at 9 a.m. at 125 W.
